DIM SUM EXPERIENCE</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Before my visit to A Wong I had only tried Dim sum once before and on this occassion I wasn't impressed at all, to be fair my first experience took place in one of the most frightening restaurants I have ever set foot in, it was a massive restaurant in China town that looked like something straight out of Rush hour 2 , it was more mafia cover up than cheap and cheerful China town restaurant, and when I say it was frightening I'm not talking about the the mafia set up, I'm talking about the food borne bacteria that circled the room on serving trolleys, they were being pushed by people that looked like they indulged in the trolleys 'delights' and was about to peg it. I didn't want to go the same way. I gagged as put the one of the more scary looking pieces of Dim sum in my mouth - my stomach instantly sensed danger, it the worst texture imaginable and the taste was rancid, I was done and didn't need to experiment any further. </div>

<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Time passed and I figured it was only fair to give Dim Sum another go outside of the human trafficking mafia den and what better place than the highly spoke of A Wong on Walton Street Victoria. Andrew Wong is a highly regarded chef who took over his fathers restaurant and is bringing Chinese cookery into the modern restaurant scene. All the top restaurant reviewers love this place so I must mention in comparison this review may seem bizarre and biased on a matter of my taste and feelings towards Dim Sum. (I'm saying this to protect myself from backlash)<br />
<br /></div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I genuinely wanted to have my mind changed.</div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Me and a friend visited at lunch time to try the Dim Sum menu, I had read lots of glowing write ups about A Wong, lots stating its great 'value for money'. </div>
<br />
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgKTcOD8OrD8VLFyNEZh7ZPYG-fu6hYVPmIXzWwDpiWLzuvOE9vZH1d68BI5s0dGDiuFOnol_tvB0qPyZ-WRi8RU-ShKYQIqe6hdgm-AKLbRrSbomHiqvdkbai6d1mhqGBcN1S-QkLaHiST/s1600/11355055_361092947424000_269375772_n.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="color: #1155cc; margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgKTcOD8OrD8VLFyNEZh7ZPYG-fu6hYVPmIXzWwDpiWLzuvOE9vZH1d68BI5s0dGDiuFOnol_tvB0qPyZ-WRi8RU-ShKYQIqe6hdgm-AKLbRrSbomHiqvdkbai6d1mhqGBcN1S-QkLaHiST/s320/11355055_361092947424000_269375772_n.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
(Shanghai steamed bun)</div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
We choose the following, Sweet and sour ribs, 63 degree 'tea egg, wild mushroom and <span aria-haspopup="true" class="" data-g-spell-status="3" id=":lv.115" role="menuitem" tabindex="-1">truffled</span> steamed bun, 'breakfast in a causeway bar', <span aria-haspopup="true" class="" data-g-spell-status="3" id=":lv.116" role="menuitem" tabindex="-1">Fois</span> <span aria-haspopup="true" class="" data-g-spell-status="3" id=":lv.117" role="menuitem" tabindex="-1">gras</span> bun, Shanghai steamed dumpling , three sauce cannelloni, clear shrimp dumpling and bean fritters. There may have been others that I can't actually remember.<br />
<br /></div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Other than the <span aria-haspopup="true" class="" data-g-spell-status="3" id=":lv.118" role="menuitem" tabindex="-1">Fois</span> <span aria-haspopup="true" class="" data-g-spell-status="3" id=":lv.119" role="menuitem" tabindex="-1">gras</span> bun which tasted good but sadly had no more than a smudge inside its streamed bun , the other dim sum items all tasted the same, none of the fillings stood out, the more interesting sounding items were the more disappointing, the clear shrimp dumplings are just much to similar to testicles for my liking, that's of course no fault of A Wong, just my own personal issue.<br />
<br />
Prices ranged between £1.50- £9.00 per piece and most items are sold as one piece. When using expensive ingredients high prices are completely warranted however I couldn't help but feel that (when spending your own hard earned cash, not getting invited for free) it all just felt a bit stingy. </div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
There is no denying the skill of the kitchen when making these delicate pieces, the presentation was great but the hit of flavour ,for me, just wasn't there, It speaks volumes when you're struggling to remember what you even had for lunch, if anything was that good I wouldn't have stopped thinking about it to this day. </div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEghRXrPEX2209QHsofTJIwOnfXuJ1f_BjkeQgQGUWYOtuCS0U7ybEVtISrBgPkifHolBcdm6RGKBZdHTiQdPmwBWKj9CAtqfX92oi-_mVbomqVtqE7m7WvtvGUZ-um9G9GLhX2IV9I5dmGg/s1600/11820523_1035061503184563_855104424_n.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="color: #1155cc; margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEghRXrPEX2209QHsofTJIwOnfXuJ1f_BjkeQgQGUWYOtuCS0U7ybEVtISrBgPkifHolBcdm6RGKBZdHTiQdPmwBWKj9CAtqfX92oi-_mVbomqVtqE7m7WvtvGUZ-um9G9GLhX2IV9I5dmGg/s320/11820523_1035061503184563_855104424_n.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I must mention that my dessert of Star anise poached strawberries with iced coconut and jelly was massively satisfying. The best thing I had all lunch. </div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
On a positive note the restaurant does have a cosy atmosphere and a pleasant service, the kitchen is open (always a good thing isn't it?) also the wine list is has a good selection with many fair priced bottles to choose from. We had a French sauvignon which was only £20.00 as tasted bloody lovely.</div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The 'value for money' lunch at A Wong came to just over £90.00 for two and I left the restaurant still feeling hungry.</div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Could it be that we just made all the wrong choices? But <span aria-haspopup="true" class="" data-g-spell-status="3" id=":lv.122" role="menuitem" tabindex="-1">then</span> why would all this items even exist on the menu if they are so mediocre?</div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
(I must mention A Wong does offer an A la carte menu and does not only offer Dim sum). </div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
A Wong and Dim sum lovers will probably think I'm a complete penis after reading this review. I wanted to be another reviewer raving about it, I really did. So A penis I may be must I can whole heartily say I will never be putting another over priced <span aria-haspopup="true" class="" data-g-spell-status="3" id=":lv.124" role="menuitem" tabindex="-1">bollock</span> in my mouth ever<span style="background-color: white;"> again. </span><span aria-haspopup="true" class="" data-g-spell-status="2" id=":lv.125" role="menuitem" style="background-attachment: initial; background-clip: initial; background-image: initial; background-origin: initial; background-position: initial; background-repeat: initial; background-size: initial;" tabindex="-1">Soz</span><span style="background-color: white;">. </span></div>

<br />
<br />
Well, one year later and I have finally mustered up the energy to create a new post on my blog.<br />
If there were prizes for the laziest shit of a blogger I would win hands down.I'm sure many of you will relate; between full time work, heavy drinking sessions and watching ridiculously addictive but at the same time ridiculously crap reality TV I massively struggle to find the energy to get my reviews up, but today is the day the abandonment comes to an end! Over the last year I have eaten at many brilliant and equally depressing restaurants which I will be posting reviews on over the forthcoming weeks ahead.<br />
<br />
<br />Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11796068393483200288noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4780447194412584056.post-10444445461703278272014-10-30T13:53:00.001-07:002014-11-07T03:47:46.268-08:00Chiltern Firehouse <br />
<span style="font-family: Times, Times New Roman, serif;">Been longing to eat here for some time now, I've actually cancelled two bookings to date. Before you gasp in horror, let me tell you I am not that important or well connected to have managed three decent bookings at Chiltern firehouse! I had merely managed to secure the lamest of reservation times, one being 5:30pm on a Wednesday and a 1:30 on a Saturday with only 1.5 hour seating. Didn't happen.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Times, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Times, Times New Roman, serif;">So I'm sure like many other fellow 'foodies' venturing to Chiltern Firehouse I couldn't give two vagina's about how many times Rita Ora has warmed up the booth leather or which A list stick of self importance has graced these seats either.I like everyone else just wants to know is it bloody worth it.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Times, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Times, Times New Roman, serif;">The fence that you enter the restaurant through (there's no obvious entrance- to clarify you don't actually walk through the fence there is a gap) is manned by two smooth looking dudes that I assume are the greeters however they look more like semi-rich guests. Lovely stuff.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Times, Times New Roman, serif;"> As we manoeuvre our way through we are greeted by the host, she puts me in the mind of someone........who is it....yes!that's it! - the alien queen in Men in black!, ah ha just googled her ... Serleena!!although I must say the hosts cloak is actually more intimidating than the Alien queen. So now I'm thinking perhaps Chiltern Firehouse is run my some Illuminati cult of extra terrestrials and that's why all the A-lister's flock here! I've only gone and done it,I've solved the bloody mystery!YES ME!You lot have been pondering over this one for months, I just figured it out within 5 minutes of being here! ;)</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Times, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Times, Times New Roman, serif;">Moving on.....</span><br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: Times, Times New Roman, serif;"><img alt="Serleena" src="http://img2.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20140407005739/men-in-black/images/thumb/5/52/Serleena.jpg/280px-Serleena.jpg" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;" /></span></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: Times, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: small;">The host </span></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<span style="font-family: Times, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span>
<br />
<div>
<span style="font-family: Times, Times New Roman, serif;">Serleena proceeded to show us to what I would say is one of the worse tables in the restaurant ,we are situated under the kitchen (unable to see the chefs) and my friend opposite has a nice big pillar at his side obstructing any freedom to turn, well this is what you get when you're not part of the cult, why would little ol me get a booth. I sound bitter that's not attractive. Fuck the booth. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Times, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Times, Times New Roman, serif;"> I get to see a menu at last! you may have noticed they don't have menu's online. I had to do a Google image of Chiltern Firehouse menus to get a peek, turned out to be a pointless exercise as the menu bar a few items was completely different to what I'd seen.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Times, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Times, Times New Roman, serif;">To start the 'snacks' we order THE Crab doughnuts and Cornbread fingers. I've heard a lot about these crab doughnuts. I love crab and I love doughnuts, sounds like a winner to me! They are just the right amount of sweet, fried but not greasy, soft tasty little bites with delicate lightly seasoned crab inside, however they are diddy, so for £6.00 I would suggest not bothering.The fried corn bread fingers are also very alike to a doughnut, they would have been more suited on the side of an ice cream, that said I love doughnuts so whatever, again £6.00 for the pleasure. That's £12.00 done already on unsubstantial nibbles, feels worth mentioning, if you're looking to avoid a high bill, this is where restaurants get you.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Times, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span>

</tbody></table>
<span style="font-family: Times, Times New Roman, serif;">My starter of Sea Trout was served raw as a ceviche ,highly welcomed. The menu didn't actually specify how the dish would come cooked, or not in this case. I perhaps wouldn't have been so keen on a lack of description in my less adventurous days but now I think its quite clever. If you don't have a pre-conceived idea of how it will be you are more open to enjoy the chefs choice,surely?</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Times, Times New Roman, serif;"> The thick sliced chunks of bright orange Sea trout came marinading in what tasted like pink grapefruit and pineapple juice, Salmon roe was generously sprinkled over the raw fish - popping in my mouth with every bite adding a pleasantly fishy taste, thinly sliced pear and coriander complimented the whole dish perfectly. Best Ceviche I've ever tasted.</span><br />

<span style="font-family: Times, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span></div>
<span style="font-family: Times, Times New Roman, serif;">For main I had the Sea bream, which my dining partner informed me, is very similar to sea bass and may sometimes be used in restaurants as a replacement when no bass has come in, most people wouldn't know the difference without looking at the fish before its final hour, he wasn't wrong It tasted exactly the same to me, perhaps more fleshy than the sea bass I've had, but the taste well you'd have to be a pro. Pan fried in butter my crispy skinned piece of loveliness sat on a bed of cima ri rapa, perhaps some cabbage and I'm sure some grapefruit was in there, the bitter (cima di rapa) sour (grapefruit) sweet (shrimps) and buttery well butter - all combined resulted in an exceptionally pleasing dish. </span><br />

<span style="font-family: Times, Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="color: #4a4a4a;"><span style="background-color: white; line-height: 19px;">The salmon well I can't comment, I didn't have the Salmon. But lets talk about the uncooked beans, yes they weren't boiled to death the classic English way, the way that successfully put myself and many other English folk </span></span><span style="background-color: white; color: #4a4a4a; line-height: 19px;">off green beans for decades, we are only now recovering thanks to the kind restoration of the beans dignity. With chefs giving us new ways of eating beans! If you're not big on trying new variations of food, may I suggest not leaving the house or maybe we should give Nuno a call see if he's got any spare time to pop round yours on a Sunday to get some bean cooking lessons?! </span></span><br />

<span style="background-color: white; color: #4a4a4a; line-height: 19px;">Atmosphere: Bored rich people, american bloggers (reading bad reviews of chiltern outloud at the dinner table) smug business people and ladies who lunch. <br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Have been wanting to eat at this place for a while, I was once shown inside the crypt which can be hired for weddings and private dining - Henry the 8th married his first wife there! Need I say more, I was never much interested in history at school, but Henry the 8th and his beheading of wives was just gripping.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I would love to tell you more about Henry's wedding feast but that would mean researching to ensure I get the all facts right,which evidently means you waiting another few weeks for this review to be posted and I quite frankly can't be arsed. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Moving on to my review of the Bleeding heart, I'll begin with the menu, it comprises of classic 'french' dishes - Which I really wish they could now just be called English considering we have too now proved ourselves to be more than capable of making a dinner comprising of fish/meat and vegetables taste good. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The wine list is long, we went for a bottle of the white Rioja which was a £40.00 bottle, well worth it, I was practically downing it. I did just notice this below though , its a webpage selling this wine at £40.00 for 6 bottles. Fuck sake - not begrudging it , I know the drink mark up is where the money is made in restaurants, just wish I had six bottles of it. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
http://www.vinissimus.co.uk/en/vinos/blanco/detalle_vino.html?id_vino=izabl13</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
We walked through a large dining room and was led to a smaller part of the restaurant which was much more cosy, the table is the corner where we sat was nice and snug. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The restaurant has been restored with care, its not come far away from how what I would assume it once looked like in the 16th century. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Its very Romantic... if you take your woman here it would win you some serious brownie points,sorry that sounds lame- you'd get lucky that night put it that way, unless of course she doesn't like food, wine and old stuff. </div>

After eating some complimentary bread which was tasty but the Olive bread didn't have enough olives and the butter would have been better salted but that make me sounds like a fussy bitch so I'll move on .... starter was slightly odd yet still perfectly edible. I had the Venison with Crisp Cumbrian ham. The Venison comes raw, seared and thinly sliced with accompanying black pudding beignets, which I loved the sound of - I was under the impression Beignets was French for doughnuts but these were just nuggets of black pudding in crumbs, fine but not what I imagined, the dressing with the crispy ham was tasty I just found all the elements together didn't quite work, nothing married although separate they were fine. </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
My partner had the crab starter which went down well even though he's not a massive fan of Avocado, seems to be a man thing? What happened between man and Avocado in our history? something must have went down. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
For the main I choose Halibut and he had the Vension. Both were as delicious as each other, my Halibut was cooked perfectly as was the pomme cocotte (to us English people that's pretty shaped potatoes) - Don't get me started - with Savoy cabbage and a champagne sauce. Only complaint here is not enough sauce it was too good to only have that amount on the plate, I understand not wanting the plate's presentation to be ruined so perhaps a jug of it on the side would work. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The Venison was rich and filling, really hearty plate of grub, it came with plums and MASH POTATO. It was devoured at almost the same rate as my wine. </div>

When the waiter poured the last glass which I didn't even know existed I actually screeched 'YES! I thought it was all gone' with as much grace and femininity as Henry's wifes reaction when he first got his fat arse out in front of her.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The dessert of chocolate bomb and salted caramel ice-cream was likable, not mind blowing but tasty none the less, the passion fruit was definitely needed on the dish, without it would have been too sweet. </div>

<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The staff here are really good, I felt very welcome throughout which sometimes seems somewhat a rarity in London even if we do have an amazing amount of fantastic restaurants, the service mostly fits into robotic, too cool for school (and you the customer) , too laid back and just too stiff. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This was none of those. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
It wasn't perfect but it wasn't trying to be, just a romantic well staffed enticing , history rich restaurant with no sign of Henry's fat arse although I think I may have left there with a extra pound on mine. </div>

<br />
I have not been to ANY restaurant in London three times, okay maybe the local curry house but besides that I haven't been to no London restaurant has had the pleasure of my appearance as much as Asia de cuba has.<br />
<br />
My boyfriend had been banging on about this place for some time, he has been years ago with his then company, he couldn't actually remember much of the evening but remembered that the Tuna was amazing. That was enough for me, when the opportunity finally arose I booked us a table to celebrate his birthday.<br />
<br />
Asia de cuba has this contagious energy about it, fruity salsa music plays through the speakers and the design gives the room a warm , bright, welcoming feel. I felt more like downing cocktails and showing off my dodgy salsa moves than eating, apart from the grinding that's exactly what I did.We shared a punch bowl to begin, and let me tell ya they are not tight with the booze .So Already in love and I have yet to eat a thing.<br />
We also had a bottle of wine of the table which made me feel really good about life. I'm already giggling and generally being a bit of an irritating tit and we are half an hour in. Yes me. Yes punch-bowl.<br />
<br />
We ordered the taster menu , which for £60.00 each included the signature dishes of Calamari salad, Tuna with Wasabi mash, Cuban chicken and coconut rice and trio of desserts.<br />
Very glad we went for this. Well worth it. The Calamari salad was like no salad I've ever tasted before. It comprised of Frisse, Radicchio , Palm hearts, nuts and banana (which worked a treat), this was all generously topped with the crispy coated ,tender Calamari.<br />
Next came the Tuna which gave me an actual orgasm, I know that sounds gross and you may feel I'm being over the top however please do believe me, this is a true story. I actually groaned out loud as the waiter topped up my wine. It meh-ellllts in your mouth. I dream of this Tuna all the time ..... *drools*. The accompanying Wasabi mash was creamy with just the right amount of heat from the Wasabi to compliment the sex tuna.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg91FJozTbn5gHsP7ZfccYEInBKC3DpcRmx6VEnJCXbnW95DIKCO0OWMH1RODWnv6iaOwSb41reXc_TwMQgAx_-L4Hzq2LKOV4uFyB6-cNAMX-CQLD8wGyQ_8JW3LZMtQFhUGhyphenhyphen511keZzH/s1600/tuna.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg91FJozTbn5gHsP7ZfccYEInBKC3DpcRmx6VEnJCXbnW95DIKCO0OWMH1RODWnv6iaOwSb41reXc_TwMQgAx_-L4Hzq2LKOV4uFyB6-cNAMX-CQLD8wGyQ_8JW3LZMtQFhUGhyphenhyphen511keZzH/s1600/tuna.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
The Cuban chicken which is cooked in coffee was almost as dreamy, with its crispy skin and tender meat the coffee is not at all overpowering , more like a char, the accompanying rice wrapped in banana leaf is fluffy as it should be and you get a nice portion of it too. I was starting to feel extremely full at this point. Making the Trio of desserts a tough ask to get in after this feast but I managed and I'm glad I did. The doughnuts deserve an award, or atleast a heavy pat on the back.<br />
<br />

<br />
<br />
My other visits to Asia de cuba were once with a friend at lunch time... we had the lunch deal which was again all cooked to perfection, the place was empty though so missed out on the atmosphere, which you realise is a massive part of this place, like with anywhere I suppose.The other visit was a group of friends, we got really pissed, had some fantastic drinks, a huge glass dispenser of cocktail arrived, it has a pourer and sits proudly at your table side.Pouring your own drinks at the table and not having to wait even a minute is a dream come true for me.This truly is the way forward.Now maybe it was the excitement,( I find it hard to calm down and act like an adult when I'm with company) but I didn't enjoy the food as much, don't get me wrong it was all still to the same standard it was just the portions seemed smaller?!<br />
It was like we got less on the plates as a group, as the plates are sharing (I should have mentioned that before) your server will suggest how many are needed,which we followed but we didn't really have enough. Not going to hold that against them, we could have ordered more and hey I was more concerned with my drink anyway.<br />
Still a great night.<br />
<br />
This is a little creepy I know, but before I finish I need to inform you that the toilets in Asia de cuba are perfect.You will start to notice after time that I have bit of a luxury toilet obsession and Asia de Cuba's up there with the best of them. I might do a top ten of London toilet's, so watch this space. Wouldn't want any one missing that.<br />
<br />
Now for me to stop rambling and wrap this up.<br />
<br />
Verdict:<br />
ASIA DE CUBA IS F**KING BRILLIANT.<br />
<br />

This is my new, much needed addition to the blog. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I'm sick of all the P.R pumping of crap venues, I'm standing up for the people! In-particular the misinformed tourist's visiting London.Put your Time Out magazine in the bin!!! Stop reading all the drivel these PR managed web pages are shoving down your throat. I vow to never to paid off to suck the ass of the people of the industry.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Of course everyone has their different opinions, but at least here you can trust an honest one. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
VAUXHALL </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I will begin with a post I read in Timeout last week, it had a feature on Vauxhall informing us of why we should all go there.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Ranking 29th on the poll of most polluted roads in the UK (and that poll was done before they demolished a Sainsburys superstore and began building the American embassy I'm sure). Vauxhall the forgotten shit tip has lots more to offer than pollution don't you worry, there's also plenty criminal activity to keep you amused too.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Vauxhall residents won't be shocked to see men in butt- less chaps at 8am when the clubs kick out and there is always plenty of wide eyed teenagers roaming the streets looking confused and ashamed on your Monday morning commute into work , I must admit that dig was partly jealously.. I'm going to work - they are still getting nutted.But still.Shocking. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Put this all aside folks, we always have Brunswick house in which we can hide away from all the madness and black dust of Vauxhall. Try a crappy cocktail for a mere £10.00 or just just go in for the treat of Brunswick house signature scent, it smells like an old Pig and not in a pork scratching way, more so in a abandoned abattoir way. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I must note the last time I went was last year, hopefully its all different, smells nice and the twerp that made me a cocktail with slobby egg white in has been booted out for good.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
So if crap cocktails. aren't your thing you can always head on to the strip of old local- yokel Italian andTurkish restaurants under the arches.Where you are not really welcome unless you're one of them, like old country pubs where they look at you funny as you walk other the theshold.They know you're new without even turning around to look at you. They smell the freshness. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I visited one of the Italian restaurants once, I wont mention names... I had vinegar wine and some melon with Parma ham which was pleasant but the pervy customers were not. Its like being transported back to Italy in the 1950's, you know, where a dame shouldn't be dining alone..., I must say they did all look pretty gangsta in that pretend Ive watched all the Sopranos but haven't been home to Italy in 25 years sort of way. Not selling it to ya? Well you could always head to Aqua on the Thames front where I once ... wait for it.... had a pube in my cabonara!!! YES! that was the best! What a treat, I even had to chase the waiter to get him to talk to me, yes, with the pubey pasta in hand. So got some much needed exercise that day too! Bonus! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I am in all fairness being a complete negative Nigel here, so Ill lighten this up with a few good things about Vauxhall, to start the gyms good on St Georges wharf. Although be warned if you keep leaving your shit in the locker they will put it all in a bin liner to be collected, I give up after the third bag. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I know this makes me sound like a cock but there's a brilliant little fruit and veg stall inside the train station that sells seasonal fruit and veg and its cheaper than the supermarket, grab some fruit and some snacks from the shop and head to the Thames for a great view of parliament for a more peaceful area than further-down the river at Southbank. Also the Young's pub which is called Riverside (on St Georges wharf) is actually quite nice for a chain pub the staff are lovely and the grubs not bad. Good wine too, and outdoor seating. Be warned they let people reserve the outside tables so on a sunny day at 5pm you may struggle so beat them to the punch and reserve one yourself. Oh and the transport is great.(I'd still advise not listening to estate agents )That really is it though.Positives done, forgive me if I've missed something. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I appreciate I am leaving myself open for abuse from loyal residents and business owners in Vauxhall here however I have lived and worked in Vauxhall and this is my experience. I don't wish to offend anyone, Sorry Vauxhall, but Timeout's Vauxhall was just more PR Pinocchio. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

We was taking a night off the family Disney frolics to spend time together to celebrate our anniversary in the Waldorf Astoria.<br />
<br />
When looking online at the menu for their restaurant Bull and Bear, I was put off by what looked like extremely high prices - not shy of paying good money for good grub but it just seemed like over the top margins for the food on offer, so anyway booked a table before we left England just in case as it appears to be very popular(Great reviews on trip advisor etc). As always I left my options open, was toying with the idea of heading to Blue Zoo .....<br />
On the night Bull and Bear seemed like a good option, struggled to pull myself away from the hotel to be honest, its so luscious. Really charming hotel, our suite (only a standard double was booked) must had been upgraded , GET IN.<br />
We was escorted to a pleasant table by the window, and got our wine ordered with the sommelier , they have one of those massive book menu's of wine that had to be tackled. Jesus christ , please just give me a tasty wine and don't suggest the one that's 90 dollars, yes , I can imagine that particular sauvingnon is extremely fantastic, but no thanks.<br />
For starter I had the Tuna three ways, each 'way' was pretty similar, and I found it a shame that one of them wasn't a ceviche , it came with sea paste or whatever they was calling it - salt that was filtered and tasted like the sea, sounds fancy, tastes okay. The Tuna was very fresh and palatable just could have done with some more sass. I understand the dish is showing off the Tuna as the star but by 'way' three the Tuna was bored of itself.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
The main was something called TOMAHAWK. A big beasty piece of beef.<br />
<br />
Look at this<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgkjX2BCi3WfNMvvO5oGU6z_3tWIOay-X5f6N62Y9TcYQXRa31Gk3unLEV8a77DJ60OdCvXyxaMnAahGHt4BbgU0N0zDoeJRorxwbf0eCqjslzmD4Sk7A3dVYp9zroCtcEMeg8O0bhAT83x/s1600/IMG_1460.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgkjX2BCi3WfNMvvO5oGU6z_3tWIOay-X5f6N62Y9TcYQXRa31Gk3unLEV8a77DJ60OdCvXyxaMnAahGHt4BbgU0N0zDoeJRorxwbf0eCqjslzmD4Sk7A3dVYp9zroCtcEMeg8O0bhAT83x/s1600/IMG_1460.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This was one special piece of meat , we had the buttery mash and spinach as sides - although scrumptious who gives a shit about those.Lets talk about the Tomahawk - It was charred to perfection , pink , soft and juicy inside without being too mushy.My partner joked about eating the leftover meat off the bone, so they happily put in on his plate for him to gnaw. I was both impressed and jealous all at the same time. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Eating off the bone in a fine dining restaurant, without any feeling of inappropriateness. Lovely stuff. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
We then had some beignets, (Doughnuts) which came with three different sauces and were a welcomed sweetness to the end of the meal, although Hunstanton sea side doughnut van doughnuts can still, to this day not be beaten. Impossible. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
VERY glad that at this stage my only mission was to get in a lift and fall into my super duper dreamy 5 star hotel bed, should really be entertaining a more sexy evening considering the occasion, but I'm just too full of Beef. Sorry. </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiwhLGr3CGPpy_1L7os-3BBa_yu6RnzGCplJ7F0YuEduOLKia9qEArDvCaLtLbU0LXzl61zcTHwKetEuV363cUlDpJPYs6Nr8TE6hY3VpgUfom8wEvJIpHbbR8fdCLZxPL2aM4yEphmMlsl/s1600/IMG_1463.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiwhLGr3CGPpy_1L7os-3BBa_yu6RnzGCplJ7F0YuEduOLKia9qEArDvCaLtLbU0LXzl61zcTHwKetEuV363cUlDpJPYs6Nr8TE6hY3VpgUfom8wEvJIpHbbR8fdCLZxPL2aM4yEphmMlsl/s1600/IMG_1463.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
To conclude : This is undoubtedly a perfectly fine restaurant, attentive friendly service - at one point the waiter tells me I remind him of Jane as in 'Tarzan and Jane' I took it as a compliment although am left baffled, my partner tells me he probably says that to all the girls, I hope not.<br />
You are made to feel welcome here, the food is good - clearly, however no WOWS from the starters which is a shame, that said nothing tasted bad at all.The quality of ingredients is evident and the chef clearly cares.<br />
It is an expensive one, but its an occasion restaurant , a treat. Please forgive me if I'm wrong but surely the finest of dining restaurants in Orlando??<br />

<br />
Starting to get used to the whole waiting thing in America , everything is long! The queues, the drive to anywhere, the wait at restaurants........... my patience has improved some what since being here that's for sure, bigger and better apparently ..<br />
<br />
The buzzer is firmly in my hand, gripping on tighter than needs be, as if some new comer is going to steal it from me and take my table, sweaty palms and everything, there are people here in this foyer that look like they would happily roll over me to get seated before me.<br />
I study the menu to take the pain off my current circumstance. I want everything! It all sounds so bloody brilliant, combo deal , lobster feast , shrimp combo, combo lobster , shrimp and WHATEVER ELSE YOU WANT COMBO.WOW. Menus like this in England = utter crap-*ding meals and bad ones at that!seems different here, its appear they have it sussed and are capable of providing a large selection of dishes without needing to pierce lots of film lids, bigger and better hey .....<br />

BUZZ<br />
yes!<br />
<br />
We are in.<br />
We are seated and greeted my the happiest chappy I've ever encountered, I already know what I want please ask me.<br />
We order drinks and starters, and along comes this amazing things called biscuits, no not as we no it my English folk , not digestives, hob nobs and custard creams.No, this is an American biscuit, more of a scone, but you know what you can call it Tracy for all I care. Its YUMMO. A soft savory scone, warm in the middle and so light -you know you could eat the whole damn basket, they taste like cheese and herbs, even that makes it sound too regular, I assure you these 'biscuits' NEED to be served a complimentary starters in England, fuck the farmhouse crusty loaf, why are we not doing this?!<br />
My wine is going down a treat as my starter arrives deep fried beans, and lots of them.<br />

Oh jesus shit. This picture doesnt even do it justice. The pasta on the side could have been a main dish.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The coconut prawns err SHRIMP are one of the best things I've ever put in my mouth, if you havent got a sweet tooth i'd avoid as these are in all fairness the sweetest cocount shrimp ive ever had. For me sweet and savoury is perfect. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The pasta alfredo with Shrimp was creamy and cheesy, tasted like a cabonara, as I began to fill I couldnt help but feel a bout of guilt, if I cant finish this it means my sheer gluttony and greed has caused these poor little shrimp to be killed just to be laid dead on a bed of cheesy pasta for nothing. So I ploughed through.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The conclusion: I'm going to shrimp hell - where ill be made to lay in cheese sauce whilst the shrimp people take their revenge and prod me with their supersize forks whilst groaning 'I'm so full, probably didnt need a combo'. hahahahahahaha . AND I WOULDNT BLAME THEM. Im sorry. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
On the plus side the fellow diners - Orlando regulars had managed to lick their plates clean, these people sure do know how to take on a combo meal. </div>

<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
I was looking for somewhere relaxed with some good old fashioned grub.nothing fancy, just good food and good wine.<br />
I have this fear of choosing somewhere lame, I like to think (especially since I work in the food industry) that I can pick the diamonds from the rough when it comes to restaurants, on this occasion I used not only my knowledge but also the not so trusty tripadvisor reviews to give me some false confident in tonight's selection.<br />
<br />
Lets start with the positives, I know that Vinoteca sources good quality produce, that's for sure, I also know that the Farringdon branch is extremely highly spoken amongst foodies in London, the restaurant is relaxed and their range of wine is fantastic, there's a massive selection and some good value wines included, we paid only £19.00 for our bottle which was delicious, sadly the positives end there.<br />
I started with a spring vegetable salad with quails eggs pleasant enough but tight on the good bits, I only had one quails egg which just wasn't enough to compliment my vegetables. Nice but not going to remember this one. For main I had the Dover sole with Caper butter with sides of spinach and new potatoes, now I can't knock the caper butter it was tasty and rich and the sole was cooked well and obviously fresh, my partners Lamb was okay but again very dull, so you may now be wondering what my big issue with Vinoteca Soho is right? well it was just all so meh, excuse my lack of vocabulary,just can't think of a better way of describing the overall feeling.I couldnt help but think how I could make this all at home just as good and for a fraction of the price, now I appreciate the rustic-ness, I was quite looking forward to it! And I'm aware Vinoteca aren't selling themselves as fine dining, but if so why did I pay £120.00 for a very average meal?! The other issue was the service,don't get me wrong our waitress was very efficient, drinks were topped up, orders were taken swiftly but so much so that she seemed rushed and a bit panicky, it was a bit off putting when you're trying to relax.<br />
<br />
I feel slightly guilty as Vinoteca didn't do anything majorly wrong, but they also didn't do anything majorly right.<br />
Go to Picture as a reliable option for wholesome food at decent prices or Apero at the Ampersand hotel.<br />

Ting Lounge :<br />
<br />
Go here if : You are celebrating something special - want delicious classic cuisine- love a room with a view - would like to go to the toilet in front of London.<br />
<br />
Don't go here if: You're on a budget.<br />
<br />
Tips: The view from the Ting lounge is better than in Ting restaurant and is more laid back, you can request the Ting restaurant menu in the lounge, so you don't miss out!<br />
When you go to the bathroom wait for the window toilet , its pretty special. I spent a lot of time in the toilet that night. (you'll see what I mean).<br />
<br />
2 mains<br />
2 Desserts<br />
1 bottle wine<br />
2 cocktails<br />
<br />
£160.00<br />
<br />
Food: 10/10<br />
Service: 9/10<br />
Ambiance: 7.5/10<br />
Value for money: 8/10 (it is worth the prices, I promise you)<br />
<br />
This place really is a treat, but exactly that for us folk with normal wages.<br />
Take someone special here as a surprise, it will not fail to impress, they have all the special touches of 5 star hotel service, and you don't feel out of place just because you're not in the rich bracket of custom.<br />
The food pleasantly surprised me, just because many places with a view in London are said to be a bit crap.<br />
My dish of chicken,tea and apricot will not be forgotten in a hurry.<br />
Another great thing about Ting is that we wasn't rushed at all, many popular places in London have a 1.5/2 hour turn around which to be booted out your seat when you've just parted with £200.00 is a bit bloody rude in my opinion. Somehow London doesn't seem to have cottoned on to Ting. I haven't seen any write ups fro the top reviewers ... seems we're not being told my the Evening standard that this is the hottest new place to be seen,no pr machine or trendy owner to drag the celebs in. Oh well, lets keep it all to ourselves.<br />

<br />
All the main reviewers have just been banging on about Corbin and King and how if anyone can pull off Austrian cuisine in London they can ... they owned the Ivy and ... blah , blah , blah<br />
Can't be arsed to tell you the back history of the owners and I'm sure of you aren't to fussed about hearing it either<br />
What we really should be talking about is Fischers as its own restaurant and the food!<br />
<br />
It really feels like you are somewhere else in here, I would say Austria but I've never been so how would I know, just feels foreign , in a good way, also slightly like you've gone back in time, again in a good way.<br />
At first the room was really quiet, until it started filling out, it has this opulent yet relaxed feel about it , luxurious without being stiff. The staffs demeanour is attentive but not involved, they don't talk current affairs and the weather with you. Can't be a bad thing can it.<br />
<br />

<br />
As always I knew what I was having before arriving , and I didn't change my mind.<br />
The beef broth with cheese dumplings for starter and the grilled spatchcock chicken with Tarragon for main with buttery mash as the side.<br />
The Beef broth was ridiculously good , really rich and well, beefy. Very generous too, there was a surprise lump of braised beef at the bottom, I'm drooling a bit thinking about it. Choose this as your starter, you can't go to Fischers and not have this, my partner had the kaestpatzle which is mac and cheese, it was delicious but he blatantly wanted my beef broth, unlucky.<br />

<br />
They had already provided us with some complimentary soda bread, which I'm thankful for, however its not needed. I'm already starting to feel full and I'm no food pansy, I have a BIG appetite.<br />
Next the mains, if you don't like Tarragon I wouldn't opt for the chicken, its smothered in it. No problem for me as I love it but just be warned as it is overpowering. My side of buttery mash was also yummo.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgMj6OqVr0fHJnEJkkNe2AuliVBrEbVlSbnAnkEImSvKNzDvSoAcud2TO2JGleqot9wvQaC5oK8IcQDwdDW4hMw_retxV9cqI9KdRqxgBWAVEpwUmouLYEReneljIDU7p9NlS4fqTt4Djm7/s1600/IMG_1645.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgMj6OqVr0fHJnEJkkNe2AuliVBrEbVlSbnAnkEImSvKNzDvSoAcud2TO2JGleqot9wvQaC5oK8IcQDwdDW4hMw_retxV9cqI9KdRqxgBWAVEpwUmouLYEReneljIDU7p9NlS4fqTt4Djm7/s1600/IMG_1645.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
My partner had the Braised beef, on this occasion although my chicken was good, I was feeling slightly jel of his selection, it came with a caramelized carrot which was delicious, how these chefs make simple veg taste so bloody amazing is just inspiring, an apple sauce sat on top of the beef and a jug of gravy accompanied, they also asked if we'd like any sauce , mustard etc .... how brilliant is that, you'd get slapped in most restaurants for even asking. well maybe not but they would if they was allowed I'm sure, just for the crack.<br />
<br />
The wine was chose by no logic apart from it being French , had the word Macon in it and was three down on the list and cost £24.00 . How we got to the decision doesn't really matter as the main thing is that it was a good one.<br />
<br />
Now I'm so full its silly, but I had to go one last hurdle for the apple Bread and butter pudding.<br />
It came with Meringue on top, not needed , it was sweet enough, it had Calvados in the filling which was lush and it was more like layered crepes than bread , very tasty but I just long for someone to give me a standard old fashioned bread and butter pudding, I don't think classic puds need sexing up, hey, that's just my opinion it was still very good and if I wasn't so full I'm sure I would have enjoyed it more.<br />
<br />
sorry about this one........<br />

<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
So to conclude ,I think this place is fantastic . I really do like it and considering the food that I'm used to eating (non-exotic cuisines) generally fail to impress me in restaurants that means a lot. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The bill came to £104.00 including service, so that's two three course meals with wine for a oner , thats bloody good value for this type of venue in London, I promise you. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I really want to go back to Fischers, and considering even if I like a restaurant going back is not as a rule on the agenda as there are so many new places in London to try. </div>

<br />
I have been very disappointing lately . I haven't updated my blog for some time, yet I have plenty of new places to tell you all about. I'm blaming the lethargy from all the eating and booze. <br />
So the most recent Restaurant visit was Gymkhana , the new Indian restaurant in Mayfair , sister to Michelin star Trishna in Marylebone. All the big gun reviewers have given Gymkhana glowing reviews.<br />
I absolutely adore Indian cuisine and dining in Mayfair makes me feel like a don , I'm in.<br />
The only available table when making my booking was for 6:00pm , since I was planning some disco dancing in Soho afterwards for a friends birthday , 6:00pm worked fine for me .<br />
Now I'm no Kelly Hoppen , I cant talk interior lingo to you but put it this way the dining room is sexy and not a dud table in sight ?! <br />
<br />
Me and my partner are curry mad , like many of us English folk I suppose. We had been salivating over the menu for a good week now, I as always had been a sad bastad and planned what I'm having already , takes the fun away I'm told. Its a bad habit what can I say.<br />
We ordered a bottle of the Indian Wine from the menu , which I have read will be becoming more popular in the coming years , it was beautiful and at £30 happy days !<br />
We ordered the Chicken Wings , Mussels and Dosa (fermented crepe) duck to start , all delicious. Wow the Mussels made me like Mussels ,seriously I have always thought they were pretty horrid little things, mini fanny looking bullets that taste like the sea and not in a good way, but no I have been officially converted ! They came in a spiced coconut sauce which you could eat like a soup when your tasty little fanny looking lovelies had come to an end. The duck dosa was also lovely but gone in two bites.<br />
Mains - SUCKLING PIG VINDALOO sounded too good to be true .<br />
Sadly it was , well its unfair of me really as I haven't ever had a 'Vindaloo' in India but how would I , wasn't Vindaloo accustomed to our taste or was that Tikka Masala? anyway maybe this is authentic and Ive become too accustomed to my favourite curry house's version , ... but yes nice just not as mind blowing as I had hoped .<br />
I had fortunately chose the Tandoori Guinea Fowl , which was very tasty indeed. Came with this lovely Crispy accompaniment . Yummo .<br />
(I've stole this picture from Daily mail , the dish looked just like their picture so there was no need for me to look like an arse taking photos of my dinner in Mayfair). <br />
<br />
<img src="http://www.thetimes.co.uk/tto/multimedia/archive/00491/TMM21GYMKHANA1_a_491593c.jpg" /><br />
<br />
<br />
I must say I wasn't as full as I like to have been , but then you could say I didn't order enough. We did'nt bother with dessert as none of them appealed to my taste , kings of spice but not of desserts.<br />
We opted for after dinner cocktails instead which were actually disappointingly pretty crap. I had The spice monopoly which read like a cocktail dreams are made of :<br />
'The Spice Monopoly<br />
House spiced rum daiquiri and coconut milk & orange blossom ice cream.<br />
The clean, fresh flavours of rum, Indian lemon & sugar have been<br />
overhauled & accompanying them is a rich yet refreshing ice cream'<br />
<br />
Hmmm . The icecream on the side was just for theatre it added nothing , the drink tasted like absinthe . yes absinthe , I hate absinthe , if you like it you are either a)Lying to sound cool b)Nuts.<br />
I was trying to hide my disappointment , did'nt want to be a knob about it however once my partner pulled at face at his choice I couldn't keep up the pretence .<br />
<br />
His choice:<br />
<br />
Respect your Alder<br />
Cognac with toasted cumin seed & mango syrup. Made as an Old<br />
Fashioned stirred and brought to your table in an alder wood chip<br />
smoked decanter.<br />
<div>
tasted like water with a drop of brandy, </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
So to conclude . I loved the room , the service was very good, the food was delicious , slightly lacking in areas but not enough to say it wasn't all expertly cooked, just a matter of me building up a too higher expectations in my head due to reviews and drooling over the menu on a daily basis. </div>
<div>
And yes I do love my local curry house . A lot. Maybe I am just a commoner after all , maybe I have no idea what Vindaloo should actually taste like , but I do know when a cocktail lasts me longer than five minutes it was just not as tasty as I wanted it to be. </div>

I have been going on and on and on for years telling people they do not need to wash their chicken .<br />
I have never washed a chicken in my life , nor has my mother who fed me for most of it and quess what ... Im STILL ALIVE and I have never ever had food poisioning.<br />
<br />
Then I did a Hygiene in Food safety course a few years back and was educated on the reason why we dont wash our Chickens .<br />
It spreads bacteria via the water all over your kitchen . Yep. No restaurant worth its onions would allow the washing of chickens to take place in the kitchen, infact its against regulations .<br />
A COMPLETE NO NO.<br />
<br />
So the next time you go to wash your slimy breasts . STOP and remember you are spreading germs that will later give you the shits and youll call in sick to work and lose a days wages . THINK.<br />
<br />
I have posted this informative and fasinating video below ...<br />
<br />
<br />
<iframe allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="270" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/xN9ZvYKqjM4" width="480"></iframe><br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
So guys if you know someone who is washing their chickens educate them to prevent their bacteria spreading ways.<br />
<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I've read that there's currently an big trend in Barcelona for 'Gastrobars' which is effectively fine dining Tapas.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Im In. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The fancy Tapas restaurant in question is Gastrobar inside the Ohla hotel. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Jesus Christ do I wish I was staying in this hotel . Its Beautiful. </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I was eyeing it up when we was booking our hotel , but a grand for 3 nights was slightly over budget :O okay a lot over budget. If you have got the bucks stay there ! It has a infinity pool on the rooftop that makes me want to touch myself ..</div>

<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Look at that , wow . I could cry. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Anyway I didn't stay there so Ill just have to get over it . </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I did get to eat in their lovely Gastrobar , I had a good feeling about it , my one concern was the atmosphere and of course hotel restaurants in 5 stars hotels even with stars of their own are notoriously a bit crap. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Some one had wrote a trip advisor review moaning about the above . </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Good Job I didn't take those comments on board . </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
They have a open kitchen which we all love don't we , for obvious reasons (we'd be able to catch them picking their nose ) so lets call that hygiene trust issues and also because the chefs can see us , I'm sure seeing happy faces scoffing your grub must be for any chef working a double shift. Encouragement. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I managed to choose a fantastic wine this time , a Chardonnay which was 26 Euro for the bottle (very reasonable ) called Enrique Mendoza from Valencia . I'm not getting nerdy on you , I kept the cork so Id remember the wine. It was that nice. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The staff were cool , present when you need them but no pestering . To be expected but not always the way it goes. After taking our sweet time deciding what tapas combo we was to order , with my encouragement we came to a conclusion. I'm indecisive in most areas of life except when it comes to my stomach and what I want to put in it. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
First came Provolone with Cherry Tomatoes and Fresh Bread . We was advised earlier that the portions are bigger than your average tapas portions . Still ordered 7 dishes. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The provolone . mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm yea I choose good there , bloody delicious </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjchC8-8qxHtCk-VZTGkXr8mkTGnViT85Mtv_-_U1LgdTtMu0VCIdEZRfEewCTBP0MEX39GF9Kr4SI17Z7yhMsQ5NvhNtw7-e95iAplkCz6-n91XQmVsQJIuYJVy4T9D34rGkA15Hx6ZPwz/s1600/DSCN0648.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjchC8-8qxHtCk-VZTGkXr8mkTGnViT85Mtv_-_U1LgdTtMu0VCIdEZRfEewCTBP0MEX39GF9Kr4SI17Z7yhMsQ5NvhNtw7-e95iAplkCz6-n91XQmVsQJIuYJVy4T9D34rGkA15Hx6ZPwz/s320/DSCN0648.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
We also stuffed in some croquettes , classic tapas choice.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Next came the our meat tapas , they brought dishes in twos as opposed to all at once like a most tapas bars do , which was perfect as that way everything is still hot . </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
We had Lamb Neck , Iberian Pork and Veal . Lamb neck melted in your mouth , it came shredded with salad .The Iberian pork I could happily eat all day although my heart wouldn't be as happy about that I'm sure. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Veal - I Don't get it , it was the first time I had tried it , tasted nice don't get me wrong but definitely not any better than a mature cow , SO WHY is there celebrities such as Gordon Ramsey and Janet Street Porter Urging us to eat more Veal. ???? I understand if an animal is killed it shouldn't ever go to waste , but if that's the case why are you killing them in the first place ? Maybe I know sweet F all about this subject , please enlighten me ...... </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I enjoyed every bite of everydish we had . I was looking forward to dessert now..... </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
is it going to be a fullhouse ???</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
YES . </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Best Chocolate Fondant I have ever eaten , and we have ordered a few over the years . Wasn't overly sweet, sickly or cakey . Do you like my use of descriptive food words, Move over Jay Rayner . </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
It was so lush . As was the Icecream and Sorbets,</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiZQYGs_A2EsnQGdHgjwvP4ZzK6rEyrDMjYO_DNWoDJ9___Wr0KbNpsWAhM1fVHq3jtmC76KdslFFfeOgZ7POtG9krIm1uhsLRtpvXndy4Dp76cfMEq6JXiCTXBS8yziYSIyXPovZyhRxpD/s1600/DSCN0653.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiZQYGs_A2EsnQGdHgjwvP4ZzK6rEyrDMjYO_DNWoDJ9___Wr0KbNpsWAhM1fVHq3jtmC76KdslFFfeOgZ7POtG9krIm1uhsLRtpvXndy4Dp76cfMEq6JXiCTXBS8yziYSIyXPovZyhRxpD/s320/DSCN0653.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The atmosphere was perfect for couples or anyone wanting to catch up , even though every table was full , it wasn't loud , I could hear everything my partner was saying not what the table next to us was. It was strange , must be the design , the restaurant has a high ceiling and the tables are all curved around so everyone has a window seat. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The other brilliant fact about this place is there was no 'you're finished now , we want you out' feel about it . Living in London I am SICK of being made to feel like you need to piss off when you're edging closer to the end of your two hour slot. Yes you are always pre-warned of this , but seriously in Tapas restaurants?! Kind of defies the point of Tapas in my opinion. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
A good is example of this is Tapas Brindisa . I love Tapas Brindisa's food but the time slot paranoia the staff have , staring over a you to see where you're at with your Chorizo every 5 minutes really is a big turn off. DID YOU HEAR THAT LONDON!? STOP IT. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
We grabbed La Cuenta and looked at the damage ... 96 Euros . Wow , I'm even happier now . Thought we had easy gone way over 100 .. that 96 included 7 share-able tapas dishes , one bottle of wine , two desserts , bread and service . We left a 20 euro tip. Then the lady serving us for most of the evening , brought the bill back , I'm thinking did we work that out wrong ,arrrr embarrassing . Nope she came to notify us that we had left 20 euros and it was a very large tip , and was we sure !</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Course we was sure ! What a lovely touch to end the meal. I'm not that naive that I don't think it could be a clever trick to leave customers really happy and appreciated but even still! I have never left a restaurant so happy. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
No one has EVER been so appreciate of a tip . EVER . </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I highly recommend this place .</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Just to note: This isn't a biased review where the results of being in such a good mood that I'd have been elated even if presented with some cheese on toast. I was actually in a crappy mood this day and this place turned it around something not many things or people can do too easily . :) </div>

<span style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: x-small; line-height: 16px;">47 Villiers St City of Westminster, WC2N 6NE</span></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I have popped my head in here many times now without actually bothering to get a drink.</div>
<div>
Its opposite Charing Cross station down the street near Embankment . Its mostly full of Londoners taking their clients out in the week , you can tell by the sound of false laughter and the smell of arse kissing in the air .</div>
<div>
Its always heaving . They have an outside terrace which you come to before the bar entrance so you can tell how busy it is before heading inside . I have always turned back around after giving up on the prospect of one last drink and head back to Charing cross to go home. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
It was raining on Friday night so I wasn't going to be fussy , wet bar crawls aren't the best so me and my friends settled for Gordons , we braved the crowd and squeezed our way through the masses to get to the bar. </div>
<div>
The smell of Cheese was potent . The bar , oh my DIDDY DAYS . Remember GASTON from Beauty and The beast , well imagine 4 of him with various hair styles and vests sweating and you have the bar staff at Gordons that night. Wow . </div>
<div>
You could taste the testosterone. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgWGCpniO8O4tBjJIZJhZEDEnM20LHczMJDCbHwG9ec3sd7VrbNR39ZuxX9XTtNnPoYr8yVpg8R6KE6xg9KFZyNbbryovqbnhAZWWgvm2xu68__wEQa-cMqFMzGA_dtlAmARd_LoygfBcbx/s1600/Gaston.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="180" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgWGCpniO8O4tBjJIZJhZEDEnM20LHczMJDCbHwG9ec3sd7VrbNR39ZuxX9XTtNnPoYr8yVpg8R6KE6xg9KFZyNbbryovqbnhAZWWgvm2xu68__wEQa-cMqFMzGA_dtlAmARd_LoygfBcbx/s320/Gaston.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div>
<div>
No one's been like Gaston</div>
<div>
A king pin like Gaston</div>
<div>
No one's got a swell cleft in his chin like Gaston </div>
<div>
As a specimen, yes,</div>
<div>
I'm intimidatiting </div>
<div>
My what a guy, that Gaston</div>
</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Anyway .. </div>
<div>
The atmosphere they created was amazing , shame the stuffy customers weren't more accommodating , English aren't the best a rubbing shoulders , even if it cant be helped we still feel hard done by when others are filling our personal space, however it is slightly understandable when you're just spent a tenner on a 125ml glass of wine, you're naturally going to give people the 'spill my wine and you will seriously know about it eyes' . </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
My wine ... meh . I've had better from Wetherspoons , In all fairness I didn't choose for myself , I just said give me a french white that's nice and that's what I was given . They probably thought the amuetuer will be happy with whatever we give her. Well not really . Every wine on that list should be of a particular standard , whether its too your taste or not. </div>
<div>
I LOVE wine but I'm so common with it , don't get me wrong the Jacobs Creek/Echo falls days are way behind me . I know what I like from Sainsburys . Other than that I don't actually have a clue . My rule has always been White- Chardonnay over 12.5 percent and Red -Merlot Or Tempanrillo always go down well. </div>
<div>
Don't Laugh. How are you supposed to remember what grapes and regions you favor when you're pissed . </div>
<div>
Wine tasting, Spitting is criminal . I can't bring myself to do it. </div>
<div>
</div>
<div>
So I need to go again , and make an informed decision on my choice of wine and maybe take a big bastad friend in there to shield me from the wine spillers . </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
(Wine tip :(for home) Put Frozen grapes in your wine if its too warm to enjoy in another words you simply cant wait the chill time and you need to get the wine in your system pronto. )</div>
<div>

I actually had reservations elsewhere , yes I'm one of those Arseholes that book tables I don't make , which inevitably caused the NO RESERVATIONS trend in London , thankfully it hasn't gone that way in Barcelona , yet . I Think I might be tempting them with my no shows.<br />
So. Why didn't you go to your reserved tables I hear you say . Well let me explain a restaurant called Gelonch was my first choice, it looked and sounded great but I just didn't fancy tiny gastronomic portions , causing the waitress/waiter to spend a lot of time explaining the details of what I'm about to eat in 5 seconds flat.<br />
Then Casa Calvet the restaurant of the Gaudi Building , highly spoke of .... mostly on Trip advisor I feared this was a infamous TRIP.ADVISOR.TRAP. It had all the classic signs . Very tempting was the inexpensive taster menu 56euro including coffee , service and water! So I was led to believe that the good write ups on T.A could come from the value for money more so than the quality of the cooking. You're always going to be less fussy when the bill comes in at 130Euro than 250 right?<br />
<br />
Then I found some YouTube videos that had been made, they were showing the chefs at Casa Calvet constructing their dishes , I'm sure these promos were created to entice the viewer to dine however for me it did quite the opposite .<br />
It looked as if the dishes were designed to be made with MINIMAL effort , it wasn't just that, they put these mysterious blobs of what appeared to be the same green and red cold liquids on EVERY DISH!<br />
Signature Blobs!?!<br />
Desserts, Lamb , a Stuffed Artichoke starter .. those blobs just kept on making an appearance . It was a cause for concern . Its never a good thing when the chefs obsessed with the same flavours, maybe I'm being harsh or simply missing the point... so I'm calling out to all the diners of Casa Calvet , what are these mysterious blobs ?<br />
<br />
So after swerving the Gastronomic fine dining and the old classic with added blobs I found myself at the last minute searching for a restaurant online when I came across Pla . I liked the fact I hadn't come across this place online yet . The more frequently a restaurant is plastered online is not , I repeat NOT necessarily a positive , well certainly not in my experience . I have see many London restaurant guides guiding unfortunate tourists to extremely AVERAGE restaurants whilst failing to mention some of our best , which shouldn't be difficult considering we have so many. Its as if the best ones are kept secret for the locals .<br />
<br />
Sorry to Ramble , I am going to get to the point of this post I promise.<br />
So. Pla. As I hadn't pre-planned my route I had to find it the old school way , a hotel tourist map and asking anyone willing to help/send me in the wrong direction/confuse me more . After three hotels receptionists were badgered we finally made our way down some twisting alley in the Gothic quarter to Pla.<br />
The adventure sobered me up and built up a fantastic appetite . As we had no reservation we was seated at the bar while the man that greeted us planned to accommodate . Cosy, Warm , Romantic , buzzing , Im thinking I've made a good choice here .....<br />
Selected the cheapest white on the menu , a Chardonnay which was corked ,which the warm staff promptly and politely replaced , however the next bottle although not corked was way too much a sweet wine to the point that I actually think it may have been more at home on the dessert wine list, but hey maybe I shouldn't have been tight in opting for the lesser expensive wine available. Half an hour passed and we was seated , it was getting late (for English Folk ) to be eating , it was around 11pm and I was pretty tipsy , and ready to indulge.<br />
We ordered our starters , I ordered the special of shredded Duck , and my partner ordered the Monkfish . My Duck. Yum Yum Yum Yum Yummo , Yum , Yes please . The Crispy Duck came sprinkled over a bed of Parmentier fondant potato with Girolles , Nuts and herbs , I'm not sure what the dressing was , my palate isn't as that trained as yet , but what I do know is it tasted amazing. Autumn loveliness. My Partners Monkfish was almost as good.<br />
<br />
Mains .. I ordered the Tuna , My partner choose the Beef . My tuna was seared , marinated beautifully and had just enough posh noodle salad to accompany , the tomato sauce on the plate was nice but I wasn't as keen on the Black Olive puree , but hey that's a matter of taste. In this case my partners dish stole the show , beautifully cooked Fillets in a mouth watering Gravy. It was my turn to be jealous of the choice.<br />
I then eat dessert alone , I had the Peach Tarte Tatin , not your classic Tarte Tatin which upset me slightly I must admit .I don't believe such a dessert needs to be 'versioned'. Also The Tarte was served with a very bitter sorbet instead of Cream or Custard which would have been much more welcomed. Not totally bad at all just not what I wanted.<br />
<br />
Service was friendly and laid back in such a natural way , not like when the staff have been instructed to take the relaxed approach and it seems hideously forced. Genuine that's the word I am looking for. Pla is genuine and I loved it .<br />
When I return I will order a better bottle of Plonk and choose a different less classic dessert.<br />
